Jonathan Kay is Director of Music at St. Timothy’s. After serving as a choir member and sub-organist since 2008, he moved into his current role in 2014. He leads musical worship at St. Timothy’s by conducting the mixed-voice SATB choir, selecting music for the choir and congregation, and by playing the pipe organ and piano during worship services.
A native of Nova Scotia, Jonathan joined his first church choir at age 6 and soon thereafter started playing on the church's impressive Casavant Freres pipe organ. He studied piano under Vesta Mosher and earned his Grade 8 certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
While an undergraduate student at the Anglican-founded University of King’s College in Halifax, Jonathan joined the choir of the Cathedral Church of All Saints. He served as cathedral sub-organist under three successive music directors and was interim-organist during the periods between their various appointments. Jonathan later served as parish organist and choir director of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yarmouth, N.S.
